Short, quick, but with a helluva punch.
The art is stunning, although I do feel there is a misstep or two, but as a whole it’s really pretty fantastic. The story set up on the first chapter is pretty solid and when the next issue comes out I know I’ll definitely be looking forward to it, but there are some short comings.
There are a couple of good plot points in the book but it doesn’t have a whole lot of substance to it. What is there is really solid work, but where the last issue felt like the passage of a few hours, this felt like maybe 15 min. passed from word one to the end.
Again we’re just given a glimpse of the big baddie in present time before rushing off into the flashback. Not a bad way of telling a story, but there isn’t a whole lot making us care about the current danger yet. The danger of the past has some nice reveals and some of the imagery is downright creepy though.
That said, I will repeat my earlier sentiment, I’ll read the next chapter the moment it’s in my hands.
Also, the series is being put out, as a variant, entirely in black and white. The first issue I think needed the color a little more than this one. Issue 2, I like the black and white edition more. Grab that if you can get it.
