Ms Marvel #27 preview

May 26th, 2008, 7:26 pm by Shawn Munguia

Marvel Comic’s “Ms.” namesake has had a solid run, issue #27 is new territory for the character as her last book didn’t make it this far. Volume two of the heroine’s tale is still hot with solid writing and beautiful art by the creative team. Add to that the fact that this is a Secret Invasion tie-in, and it makes this book a must have.

Marvel brings back Marvel

November 17th, 2007, 10:15 pm by Shawn Munguia

Captain Marvel No. 1 coverMarvel Comics has brought back Captain Marvel … well Mar-vell anyway.

The long dead Kree warrior that wore that mantle died years ago of cancer. It was one of the most touching deaths in comic book history and was one of the first times that I found myself closing a comic book to immediately reopen it and re-read it.

So it was with some trepidation that I looked at the title that Marvel decided to revive.

But the Mar-Vell that has returned is different and very interesting.

The hero was found in the Negative Zone, a dimension outside of time and space, and was actually there from one of the times in his history. So Mar-Vell is not actually back from the dead, he hasn’t died yet.

While it could easily be an annoying ploy, the character is shown as a battle hardened warrior that knows he’ll come to die in a bed of cancer. What the Vikings used to call a straw death.

And so it appears that the comic will be an intriguing character study of a man made painfully aware of his own mortality.

And it looks like it’ll be a fun ride.
