Eternals #2 (preview)

July 8th, 2008, 11:04 am by Shawn Munguia

This Marvel comic is kind of like watching “I Claudius” with super  powered players. You know they have super powers because Tony Stark whines about them not being under his thumb and you’re expected to know some Marvel history. They don’t’ actually show any fighting, powers or much else besides complain to one another or whine because the Celestial is talking to someone else … I guess that part is pretty Saved by the Bell actually. Still, everything looks really beautiful and they promise that it’ll all lead somewhere so this’ll probably mean something sometime down the line.

Captain Britain and MI13 #3 (preview)

July 8th, 2008, 10:59 am by Shawn Munguia

This issue of Marvel Comics’ Captain Britain and MI:13 finds England and all of magic under attack by the Skrull. From issue 1 this book has been non-stop action and it doesn’t let up in issue 3. Add to that, Spitfire is an alien butt kicker of epic proportions. Really a fun read.

Amazing Spider-Girl #22 (preview)

July 8th, 2008, 10:52 am by Shawn Munguia

This Marvel Comics book has been a fun read since I first started reading it. The comic tells stories of May “Mayday” Parker who has taken on her father’s mantle after Pete retired from the hero biz. The title takes place in the same alternate future where the American Dream operates and rarely fails to be at least a fun read.

Wolverine #66 (preview)

June 16th, 2008, 9:06 pm by Shawn Munguia

The line that many have used to sell this Marvel Comics tale is “like Unforgiven starring Wolverine.” All the heroes have fallen and Wolvie is about the only one left alive. Hulk’s hick descendants, pretty much, run a big chunk of the country and Wolvie is in hock to them. So he sets off on a cross country job with the now blind Hawkeye to try and earn the money to save his pig farm. You read that right, “his pig farm.”

Ultimate X-Men #95 (preview)

June 16th, 2008, 9:00 pm by Shawn Munguia

Last month, Marvel Comics revealed that Ultimate Colossus didn’t gain superhuman strength with his mutation but instead relies on drugs to give him that edge or his body is too weak to make him any more useful than a shield. Ultimate Alpha Flight absconded with his boyfriend North Star, so the big Russian is dead set on getting him back, and some of his fellow mutants are willing to enhance their powers with the same drugs young Rasputin has been availing himself of.

Agatha Harkness of Marvel Comics’ Ultimate universe may not be driving a wedge into the Ultimate FF but she sure seems to be working hard at prying the thing deeper. The psychiatrist seems to have set the Hypocratic oath aside as the team grows further apart at her prodding.

Secret Invasion: The Fantastic Four #2 (preview)

June 16th, 2008, 8:51 pm by Shawn Munguia

Marvel Comics just can’t let a dangling plot dangle of late. Johnny Storm’s ex-wife Lyla returning from the crevices of obscurity to wreck havoc on the quintet is a perfect example of just that. With Reed and Susan out of the way she’s left to deal with Johnny and Ben “the Thing” Grimm. Of course, Franklin and kid sister Valaria are in tow in this Negative Zone adventure.

Punisher #58 (preview)

June 16th, 2008, 8:15 pm by Shawn Munguia

Marvel Comics’ Punisher has been enjoying great success with Garth Ennis at the helm and this story is the penultimate entry to this storyline from the multiple-Eisner Award winner. In this issue Frank Castle comes face to face with the Special Forces squad sent to take him down.

Iron Man: Director of SHIELD #30 (preview)

Ever since Marvel Comics put the Shell head at the helm of their premiere law-enforcement agency, a bunch of readers have been waiting to see what happens when some of the ghosts of Tony Starks’ past come out to play. This look like we’ll be seeing a bit of just that with this storyline.

Incredible Hercules #118 (preview)

June 16th, 2008, 8:08 pm by Shawn Munguia

Hercules became a “must read” pretty quickly and now Marvel Comics’ Prince of Power is the leader of a “God Squad.” Yep, Herc is leading a band of various deities against the Skrull gods, and the trip is just getting started when they have to cross the realm of Nightmare.
