This is an under appreciated X book in the Marvel Comics pantheon. The characters are fun and intrigueing and the art is beautiful. The addition of the character Ink, who gains powers by having tattoos applied, is fantastic. There’s a subplot that really pays off in this issue and many old fan favorites are back. Definitely worth a look.

There are a few minor changes but for the most part it’s the story we almost all know. Still, the story is well told and those little differences are fun little geek moments. Theres’ also something about a post with a red eye thingy, akin to HAL from “2001” that will likely feature heavily in the overall story. The book is well worth a read. Powers #29 (preview)July 8th, 2008, 11:45 am by Shawn MunguiaThe only problem with Marvel Comics’ Powers is that you don’t really get a recap. Brian Michael Bendis pet project is sans recap page so it’s almost a conciet that you know what the heck is going on. Still, you usually get enough of what’s been happening to keep you up to date. This is a rare instance where that is not the case however. Much of the story was lost on me as I’ve not been able to keep up to date on the story for a while. I admire the writing greatly, but spent too much time playing catchup. If you’re a fan, you’ll love it, if you arent’ a fan, you’ll love it too, but wonder what you’ve missed out on so far. Invincible Iron Man #3 (preview)July 8th, 2008, 11:30 am by Shawn MunguiaMarvel Comics had a hit earlier this summer with the Iron Man movie and the hits just keep on rolling in with the Shell-head with Invincible Iron Man. Matt Fraction continues to enthrall with this tale of Tony Stark as he faces a 21st Century foe in Zebidiah Stane. The offspring of Starks greatest foe looks to make Starks life than any Stane every has, this issue reveals a big slice of creepy to the dude as well. Guardians of the Galaxy #3 (preview)July 8th, 2008, 11:22 am by Shawn MunguiaMarvel Comics’ Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the best written books on the market right now. Funny and yet full of adventure. This is a comic that has a raccoon as a contributing member and a stick as comic relief. And yet the action is paced quickly and fights are told well enough that you can follow the action in two different fights without getting lost. The art is stunning and THEY HAVE A TALKING RACCOON NAMED “ROCKET RACCOON AS THEIR WEAPON EXPERT. How can you not like it. Check out this preview, then get a copy. GeNext #3 (preview)July 8th, 2008, 11:14 am by Shawn MunguiaThis Marvel Comics book is starting to be a really fun read and with the disappearance of a lead character it looks like it’s really about to start going. This is a great jumping on point, you might feel a little out of the loop, but it’s easy enough to catch up. Eternals #2 (preview)July 8th, 2008, 11:04 am by Shawn MunguiaThis Marvel comic is kind of like watching “I Claudius” with super powered players. You know they have super powers because Tony Stark whines about them not being under his thumb and you’re expected to know some Marvel history. They don’t’ actually show any fighting, powers or much else besides complain to one another or whine because the Celestial is talking to someone else … I guess that part is pretty Saved by the Bell actually. Still, everything looks really beautiful and they promise that it’ll all lead somewhere so this’ll probably mean something sometime down the line. Thor #9 previewMay 26th, 2008, 8:32 pm by Shawn MunguiaWell Marvel Comics version of Loki is now a woman, but he/she may be as treacherous as ever. Thor #9 gives you a look at she and Balder. Ms Marvel #27 previewMay 26th, 2008, 7:26 pm by Shawn MunguiaMarvel Comic’s “Ms.” namesake has had a solid run, issue #27 is new territory for the character as her last book didn’t make it this far. Volume two of the heroine’s tale is still hot with solid writing and beautiful art by the creative team. Add to that the fact that this is a Secret Invasion tie-in, and it makes this book a must have. Daredevil #107 previewMay 26th, 2008, 6:59 pm by Shawn MunguiaDaredevil is Marvel Comics quintessential street level hero and among Marvels’ pantheon, few have suffered as much. But his current route of self-destruction isn’t going unnoticed by friends. They’re looking to help put the hero’s heels on the floor and force him to come back to “life.” |
